5、Desire causes suffering because it can never be completely gratified.
欲望会导致痛苦,其主要原因乃是欲望永远无法完全满足。
6、To be attached to one thing (to a certain view) and to look down upon other thing (views) as inferior--this wise men call a fetter.
固执某一件事物(或某种见解),而轻视其他事物(或见解)是卑鄙的,智者称它为「束缚」。
7、Bonds do not exist for those to whom naught is dear or not dear.
没有贪爱和憎恨的人,就没有束缚。
8、There is no fire like lust, no grip like hate; there is no net like delusion, no river like craving.
贪心是最猛烈的火,憎恨是最坏的执着,迷惑和错误的见解是最难脱逃的网,爱欲是最难渡过的河流。
9、One should give up anger; one should abandon pride; one should overcome all fetters. I’ll never befall him who clings not to mind and body and is passionless.
一个人应该舍弃愤怒,拔除傲慢,超越所有的束缚。不执着心灵和物质的人,内心可以得到真正的安宁,而不受外在的影响。
10、All desires have in them little pleasant taste but rather much potential suffering.

15、Let one’s thoughts of boundless love pervade the whole world--above, below and across--without any hatred, without any enmity.
让我们心中无限的爱能遍布整个世界,无论在宇宙的那一个角落,都没有丝毫的怨恨和敌意。

18、He who sees other’s faults is ever irritable, the corruptions of such as one grows. He is far from the destruction of the corruptions.
寻找别人过失,而且容易发怒的人,苦恼越来越多。离开没有烦恼的境界也越来越远。
19、The wise man builds no hopes for the future, entertains no regrets for the past.
聪明的人不奢望未来,也不追悔过去。
20、Only things with which a man identifies himself are able to disturb his mind-only that which concern “ myself ”can give me grief.
执着自我的人,心智将会受到干扰。处处只考虑自我的人,将给自己带来忧愁。
